Freedom often begins with learning to see differently.
During the Textures Workshop at the Oasis I AM ART camp in 2026, the girls were invited to slow down and notice the beauty hidden in ordinary things. Leaves, bark, flowers, stones, fabric—even everyday objects—became reminders that God’s creativity is woven into every corner of creation.
As they explored the world around them, those discoveries became textured prints filled with color, pattern, and imagination.
Then everything changed.

The girls were asked to cut apart the very artwork they had worked so carefully to create.
At first, the assignment felt backward. Why destroy something they had spent so much time making? But what looked like loss soon became an invitation. Piece by piece, the torn prints were rearranged into vibrant three-dimensional collages, revealing an unexpected truth: sometimes transformation begins only after we’re willing to let go of what we thought the finished picture should look like.
One quiet participant embraced that lesson in a remarkable way. Throughout the week, she had mostly observed, listening more than speaking. Before the final collage, workshop leader Jen invited the girls to reflect on what they had learned and asked if anyone wanted to share.
After a thoughtful silence, the young girl quietly raised her hand.
“This reminds me that we need to be patient with what happens to us, just as God is patient with us. He loves us and never gives up on us, so we should learn to be like Him.”
Her response surprised everyone.
She could have talked about the frustration of cutting apart her artwork. Instead, she recognized something far deeper. The torn pieces became a picture of God’s patient love—a love that never gives up on us, even while He continues shaping our lives.
Jen later reflected that the most meaningful part of the workshop wasn’t teaching the lesson. It was creating space for the girls to discover it themselves. As they slowed down to observe their artwork, they also began to notice what God was doing within their own hearts.
Creativity became more than making art. It became an invitation to trust the Creator.
Like the layered collages they carried home, every girl’s story is still unfolding—not all at once, but through patient hands that continue transforming ordinary lives into something unexpectedly beautiful.
