Reflection, faith & celebration
I AM ART is a collaborative creative experience where people of different cultures and backgrounds create, learn, and grow together through art. It’s not about showing up, building a program — it’s about relationships, mutual learning, and being part of what God is already doing.
Opal House leaders help shape the experience.
Workshops are planned collaboratively with local artists, partner staff, and Athentikos.
The experience is shaped through relationship with the host partner and local community.
THE EXPERIENCE
Each gathering follows a creative process shaped for its people and purpose.
Help guide students at Opal House’s Montessori school through hands-on art activities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and self-expression. Share your creative skills while making room for students to make choices, try ideas, and work at their own pace. The process helps students discover possibilities and value their own creative voice.
Work with Athentikos, Opal House staff, and your teammates to prepare and facilitate the art camp. Share ideas, organize materials, and adapt activities with guidance from educators who know the students. Together, you’ll help create an encouraging environment that supports different ages, abilities, and ways of learning.
Build relationships with students and team members through shared art activities, conversation, and everyday moments during camp. Listen, learn, and offer encouragement as students share their ideas and discoveries. These interactions help students feel seen and supported, while giving you opportunities to learn from the Opal House community.
Take time with your team to process the day through conversation, prayer, and faith-centered reflection. Consider what students’ curiosity and creativity are teaching you about learning, relationships, and your own story. Reflection helps you respond thoughtfully during camp and carry those lessons into life at home.
OPTIONAL EXCURSION
Extend your Opal House I AM ART Experience with a three-night stay at Casa del Mundo on Lake Atitlán. Enjoy lake and volcano views, space for creativity, and time with your teammates after camp.

You will receive the relevant registration, preparation, travel, team, or local-contact information for this opportunity.
Submitting a registration, application, or deposit does not guarantee participation until Athentikos or the appropriate team/partner confirms your place. Participants must complete required forms, payments, preparation steps, travel documentation, and any applicable screening by the stated deadlines. Athentikos may decline or discontinue participation when reasonably necessary for safety, conduct, eligibility, team readiness, partner requirements, or the wellbeing of participants and communities.
Athentikos may commit participant funds in advance for lodging, transportation, program preparation, partner commitments, supplies, reservations, and other nonrecoverable costs. As a result, some or all payments may become nonrefundable as the experience approaches. Any experience-specific payment or cancellation schedule communicated during registration controls if it differs from these general terms. Participants are encouraged to consider travel cancellation/interruption coverage for expenses they could lose if unable to participate.
Athentikos may modify dates, itinerary, lodging, activities, transportation, partners, staffing, or other arrangements when conditions reasonably require, including safety concerns, weather, transportation disruption, partner needs, government restrictions, health concerns, or events outside Athentikos’ reasonable control. If Athentikos cancels or materially changes an experience, it will communicate available options after accounting for funds already committed or unrecoverable on the participant’s behalf. Unless expressly stated otherwise, Athentikos is not responsible for airfare or other travel purchased independently by the participant.
Participants are responsible for obtaining and maintaining any required passport, visa, permission, vaccination documentation, or other travel document and for confirming applicable entry, exit, and passport-validity requirements. Participants must comply with the laws and requirements of the countries and communities in which the experience takes place.
Participants are responsible for determining whether they are physically and medically able to participate and for sharing relevant accommodation or safety needs through the appropriate confidential process. Unless Athentikos specifically states that coverage is provided, participants are responsible for their own medical, travel, trip-cancellation/interruption, and medical-evacuation coverage, as appropriate to the experience.
Travel, transportation, unfamiliar environments, weather, illness, physical activity, and changing local conditions involve risks that cannot be eliminated completely. Athentikos will take reasonable steps to plan responsibly and work with local partners, but it cannot guarantee an experience free from risk, delay, disruption, or loss. Participants are expected to follow Athentikos, team-leader, host-partner, and local safety guidance.
Participants are expected to conduct themselves with humility, cultural respect, appropriate boundaries, and consideration for teammates, partners, participants, and local communities. Participants must follow safeguarding expectations, local laws, team guidelines, and instructions from designated leaders. Athentikos may remove a participant from an activity or experience when conduct creates a material safety, safeguarding, legal, relational, or mission concern. Costs resulting from participant misconduct or an avoidable early departure may remain the participant’s responsibility.
Athentikos is a Christian faith-based organization. Christian belief is not an eligibility requirement for an Open I AM ART experience unless an opportunity explicitly states otherwise, but participants should understand that prayer, Scripture, worship, faith conversations, or other Christian practices may be part of the experience. Participation in personal disclosure, prayer aloud, or other individual spiritual responses should not be coerced.
Athentikos works with local partner organizations and may use independent providers for lodging, transportation, meals, excursions, and other services. Availability and arrangements may change. Athentikos will make reasonable efforts to select and coordinate providers responsibly but cannot control every act, omission, delay, or service of an independent provider.
Photography, video, testimonials, story publication, evaluation, and follow-up are governed by the permissions and consent processes applicable to the experience. Participation does not automatically grant Athentikos permission to publish a participant’s personal story, sensitive information, image, or likeness beyond the permissions actually provided.
Optional excursions are separate from the core I AM ART experience. Participation is voluntary and may involve additional cost, physical activity, transportation, third-party services, or schedule requirements. Choosing not to participate in an optional excursion will not affect eligibility for or participation in the core I AM ART experience. Participants should review the excursion’s stated inclusions, exclusions, activity expectations, and payment terms before adding it.
Unless specifically listed as included, participants should expect to be responsible for airfare, passports or visas, vaccinations or medical preparation, travel insurance, personal purchases, baggage or airline fees, meals or activities outside the official itinerary, and other individual expenses.
These terms supplement any experience-specific registration forms, releases, consent forms, safeguarding requirements, or partner/team instructions. By completing registration, participants acknowledge that they have reviewed the opportunity information and applicable terms, understand the faith-based and travel/service context where relevant, and agree to complete any additional required documents before participation. For minors, parent or guardian permissions and additional requirements may apply.
