After a full week of pouring out through art, teaching, and spiritual connection at I AM ART Camp, our team embraced a sacred rhythm of restoration with an optional excursion to Casa del Mundo—a peaceful retreat carved into the volcanic cliffs above Lake Atitlán, Guatemala.
This wasn’t a vacation.
It was a pause with purpose—an intentional space to breathe, reflect, and reconnect with God, with one another, and with the beauty surrounding us.
Rest Is Part of the Mission
The I AM ART journey isn’t only about giving—it’s also about receiving.
After a week of wholehearted service, we slowed down and let stillness do its healing work.
Our time included:
- Resting in hammocks under the shade of tropical trees
- Reading, journaling, and praying in solitude
- Swimming in the cool, clear waters of Lake Atitlán
- Simply being present—with ourselves, with each other, and with God
These quiet moments helped us process all we had seen and felt—moments of healing, breakthrough, and joy at Opal House—through unhurried reflection.
Exploring Beauty Together
While rest was central, so was shared adventure.
We explored the lakeside towns of Jaibalito and Santiago Atitlán, immersing ourselves in local culture and hospitality:
- Hiking narrow mountain trails
- Shopping at artisan markets
- Tasting regional food
- Laughing together as we discovered more of Guatemala’s vibrant beauty
These experiences didn’t pull us away from the mission—they deepened our bond as a team and reminded us that rest in community is just as important as service in community.
A Sacred Space to Breathe Deeply
As team member Kimberly Moore shared:
“Casa del Mundo gave me the space to breathe deeply, process all that God had done during camp, and connect more personally with others on our team. I journaled, read, and had conversations that reminded me why we serve in the first place.”
This excursion wasn’t an afterthought—it was an integral part of the I AM ART rhythm.
Because rest creates room for renewal.
And when we slow down enough to listen, we often discover that God is still speaking—long after the paintbrushes are put away.
A Final Word of Gratitude
In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus tells his disciples,
“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” (Mark 6:31)
At Casa del Mundo, we followed that invitation.
We stepped away, not to escape, but to listen.
To reflect on the work God had done—and to prepare our hearts for what’s next.
Rest restored our joy.
Stillness gave us clarity.
Community reminded us we’re not alone in this mission.
